Description

POLK COUNTY CONSERVATION is looking for a passionate social media and content intern who can support the efforts of multiple units within our department. The content and social media intern will be responsible for researching, developing, and authoring quality content for social, digital, and print channels to promote various projects and events undertaken by Polk County Conservation. From designing social media campaigns to crafting blog series and web stories, the Community Outreach Office of Polk County Conservation wants to help you apply and test what you’ve learned in the classroom to all things conservation, recreation, and environmental education.

Under direct supervision of a specified Unit Manager, assists in performing duties as assigned in accordance with the student’s educational program and the needs of the unit to which the student is assigned; and to perform related duties as assigned. Assists in varied assignments such as technical/professional work, research, analysis, and other duties as assigned.

Illustrative Examples of Work

  • Performs routine work pertinent to the subject area to which assigned such as administration, natural resources, environmental education, community outreach, parks advocacy, parks planning, construction and maintenance, equestrian, and leisure services.
  • Specific work assignments depend on the terms of the student’s educational program and the unit to which the student is assigned. Examples of work to be performed in each division or area include:
    • Community Outreach- content creation for websites, social media, and print materials; digital asset management; special event assistance
  • Efficiently research and collect data, interviews, and images to create and publish original content
  • Deliver tactical plans to repackage and merchandise existing content elements across several channels, including blogs, e-mail, websites, and social community sites (Facebook, Instagram, LinkedIn, Twitter, YouTube, etc.)
  • Develop long-form content as needed
  • Regularly present ideas for content creation and collection
  • Assist the Community Outreach team in developing and maintaining editorial/content calendars
  • Assist in the archiving and tagging of content assets for future use
  • Audit content and social media analytics for engagement levels and results
  • Based on results, offer recommendations for content creation, posting cadence, and ad dollar spend
  • Maintain an ongoing knowledge of current news, trends, and research related to Polk County Conservation work
  • Performs related duties as assigned.

Required Knowledge, Skills and Abilities

  • Basic knowledge of the concepts of the field to which the internship applies.
  • Ability to communicate effectively orally and in writing.
  • Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships.
  • Ability to apply knowledge gained through formal education to situations encountered in the work setting.
  • Ability to operate equipment, machinery, computer/software, office equipment, etc. as needed.

Training and Experience

  • Enrollment at a post-secondary school in coursework relevant to the duties of the unit to which assigned. 

Special Requirements

  • A criminal background check is required.
  • A valid State of Iowa driver’s license is required.

Qualifications
Training and Experience
