Harrison County Historical Village Welcome Center

Overview

Founded in 1938 by Preston Niles, the museum began as a modest tribute to the region's rich heritage. Over time, it expanded into a complex of 10 buildings, each showcasing artifacts and stories from a bygone era.

In 1969, the Harrison County Conservation Board acquired the property, and since then, it has proudly operated as a free museum, welcoming visitors from near and far. In 1999, a tornado struck the site, causing damage to nine of the buildings. While repairs were made to several structures, five buildings were unfortunately beyond restoration. Despite this setback, the museum remains a cherished destination, offering a unique glimpse into local history and culture.
