Butterfly Rearing 101

Hurstville Interpretive Center, Jackson County

Sunday, July 7, 2024

Summer is just getting started, and that means the butterflies are here and ready to hatch! Join AmeriCorps Naturalist Shelby Davison for a program on Butterfly Rearing 101 on Sunday, July 7 at 2:00 PM at the Hurstville Interpretive Center.

Together we will go over best practices for rearing two different butterfly species - Monarchs and Swallowtails. Learn about these butterflies' life cycles, eating habits, and importance to our ecosystem!

Shelby Davison is a Maquoketa local, currently serving her 6-month Green Iowa AmeriCorps term with the Hurstville Interpretive Center. She grew up collecting monarch caterpillars during the summers off from school, and is looking forward to sharing her techniques for rearing monarchs and swallowtails!

This program is free and open to the public. Registration is required.
