Great Backyard Bird Count

Hurstville Interpretive Center, Jackson County

Saturday, February 15, 2025

Come out to Hurstville Interpretive Center and learn how you can contribute to the Great Backyard Bird Count. This is an annual day of data collection, promoted by the Cornell Lab of Ornithology, that encourages people to record winter birds from their backyards, local parks, or anywhere you can find birds! Learn basic winter bird ID, practice using binoculars and ID'ing birds, and then go on a short hike to record our own data to be uploaded. You will take home all the knowledge to count, record, and upload birds sited in your own neighborhood! Birding can be slow, so we recommend dressing for the weather and then adding a layer. A limited supply of binoculars will be available to borrow. Please call (563)-652-3783 or email jrodewald@jacksoncounty.iowa.gov to register. Registration closes 48 hours in advance.
