Nature Therapy Walk

Hartman Reserve Nature Center, Black Hawk County

Sunday, November 10, 2024

Nature therapy walks at Hartman Reserve are mindful, therapeutic guided walks that promote wellness through a series of gentle, sensory-opening invitations. These walks are more widely referred to as forest bathing. This practice of immersing oneself in nature helps you to slow down, heighten your senses, and be in the moment---a time for individual, quiet reflection. Studies have shown a wide array of health benefits to being in nature, especially in the cardiovascular and immune systems, and to help stabilize mood and improve cognition. In fact, a growing number of health professionals are prescribing a walk in nature to complement or even substitute for traditional medicine!

Hartman nature therapy walks are led by Certified Forest Therapy Guide Connie Svoboda, who is also a Naturalist for Black Hawk County Conservation at Hartman Reserve. These walks do not travel far and are on a relatively flat trail to accommodate those with mobility issues. This personal experience is limited to 12 people and lasts about 2-1/2 hours. Please email Connie at csvoboda@blackhawkcounty.iowa.gov or call 319-277-2187 with any questions or to schedule a private walk.

Registration deadline is November 7, after which an email will be sent to participants that suggests what to wear and what to bring, as well as other relative information.

Cost: $20.00

Program Policies: All registrations must be done online and no walk-ins will be accepted. If you need assistance in registering for programs online, please call the nature center 319-277-2187, and we will help you.

Refund Policy: Refunds will only be given in the case of a documented medical emergency or funeral for programs more than $10. If program cost is under $10, a program voucher will be offered for a future program. If a program is cancelled due to weather or other unforeseen reasons, then a similar program will be offered in its place.
