Spring Creek Geologic Study Area
Discover Spring Creek Geologic Study Area in Wellman Road
The Spring Creek Geologic Study Area is 32 acres of upland forest. Located within the park is a quarry where fossils are quite commonly found. The park entrance leads to the quarry parking lot and there you may begin to find cephalopods, brachiopods and other fossils common to Iowa. Contained within the 32 acres is prime white tailed deer, squirrel, and turkey habitat. A small creek runs through the park as well.
Hikers within the park will encounter unique rock formations. Bird watchers will encounter numerous species of non-game birds as well as raptors and other avian species common to Iowa's woodlands.
Park boundaries may not be clearly marked in all locations within the park so please be aware of park boundaries and respect private property.
