Bypass Basin Refuge
This is a 113 acre area acquired from the Iowa DOT. It is ground set aside when the Highway 63 bypass project was completed and is an excellent upland/wetland complex.
Location
Located in the northwest corner of New Hampton, east of Highway 63
Features
Chickasaw County has signed an easement with the City of New Hampton to use Klenske Avenue to provide public access into the area from the south. The access starts on the north end of the Kwik Star lot, and goes along the power poles on the west side of the field.
Fishing is allowed. Bass and bluegill have been caught on the north pond.

Open year round 6:00 a.m. - 10:30 p.m. daily
Closures
No hunting is allowed.
The big pond to the west of the entrance is private property.
You are not allowed to park along Highway 63 or the off ramp to gain access to Bypass Basin Refuge. At this time, the only way to access the area is to walk in from the south end.
