Wilderness First Responder Course
Wickiup Hill Learning Center, Linn County
Monday, January 27, 2025
If you spend
a lot of time outdoors, knowing how to react and adapt to unpredictable
situations is a must.
We are
excited to announce that Linn County Conservation is hosting a Sierra Rescue
International Wilderness First Responder Course, taught by Tom Burroughs -
NREMT/WEMT of Ozark Safety and Rescue Educators.
All course
registration will be through course host.
What is
a "Wilderness First Responder" course?
Taught by
medical professionals with decades of professional backcountry medical and
rescue experience, the WFR is an intensive 80-hour program that will challenge
you both physically and mentally.
This 8-day
course will cover a wide range of practical wilderness medical scenarios, and
the skills to manage complex medical challenges in the backcountry.
The focus is
on more than just trauma; it covers long-term management of sickness and
serious health problems when quick evacuation and outside help is not an
option.
Time is
split between hands-on medical training, lecture, discussion and both day and
night field scenarios which all blend together into a learning experience that
has no equal. Intensive hands-on training and the development of solid
"critical judgment" is the foundation for the program.
The SRI
Wilderness First Responder certification is recognized nationwide and will give
you skills for life. Successful completion of this course results in the
nationally recognized Wilderness First Responder certification from Sierra
Rescue International.
•
Certification period is for THREE years
• Course
includes a 2-year healthcare provider CPR/AED certification
• Functions
as an EMT-Wilderness upgrade for current EMTs and Paramedics.
This course
will challenge you and prepare you to handle a wide range of backcountry
emergencies!
