All About Owls
Buena Vista County Conservation Park, Buena Vista County
Friday, February 3, 2023
Everyone
knows what owls look like, but have never seen a member of this beautiful
species in person. These mysterious birds glide on silent wings through the
night, their haunting calls echoing through the quiet dark. You
will have a chance to meet this elusive predator in person on Friday, February
3rd!
The special “All About Owls” evening begins at 6:00 p.m.
in the South Shelter house at Buena Vista County Conservation Park. Stop by to
make an owl-themed craft, sip some hot cocoa or coffee, enjoy some refreshments,
and meet Luna, the education barred owl.
At 6:30
p.m., Naturalist Katie will present a short program on the owls of Iowa,
followed by an owl prowl. The owl prowl will begin at 7:00 p.m. at the South
Shelter. Naturalist Katie will lead a short hike to call owls. Snowshoes will
be available (at no charge) for the owl prowl if there is at least six inches
of snow. If there isn’t sufficient snow cover, please wear appropriate
walking shoes or boots. Please dress for the weather if you are planning to go
on the hike.
Reservations
are required by Wednesday, February 1st. To RSVP, call the
conservation office at 712 -295 -7985. This program may be cancelled due to
weather or lack of registrations.
