Burt Lake Shelter


A lake formed by the glaciers, Burt lake sits on the Iowa-Minnesota border north and west of Swea City, Iowa.  It offers camping with electrical hookups and pit latrines, hunting, fishing, hiking, and picnicking. It is 145 acres.

Location

Head west out of Swea City on Highway 9 for 3 miles, then turn north on county road P20 (40th Ave.) and continue for 7 miles until you enter the park.

Features

Burt Lake offers a campground with electrical hookups and Port-Pot latrines.  Fishing can be good for bullheads, catfish, and northerns in the spring.  Public hunting for deer, turkey, waterfowl, pheasants, rabbits, and squirrels is also available.  A mowed hiking trail also winds around the southwest side of the lake and through the timber.

Operating Hours & Seasons

The campground opens around the middle of April and closes around the beginning of November each year depending on the weather.
