Fossil Camp (Ages 11-16)

Are you ready to step back in time and uncover ancient secrets? Join us for Fossil Camp, an exciting adventure where kids will learn all about fossils and get hands-on experience searching for them in Northeast Iowa’s fossil-rich locations!🦴

What’s Included:

📚 Discover how fossils are formed and their importance in history

🪨 Travel to unique sites in Northeast Iowa to hunt for real fossils

🌊 Explore creeks, quarries, and other fossil-rich areas

🔍 Learn to identify different types of fossils and what they tell us about the past

🎒 What to Bring: Lunch, water bottle, sunscreen, bug spray, sturdy shoes, or water shoes (for creek wading). 

Ages: 11-16

Cost: $50 dollars. This covers all program costs and fuel. No walk ins will be accepted.

Program Policies: All registrations must be done online, and no walk-ins will be accepted. If you need assistance in registering for programs online, please call the nature center 319-277-2187, and we will help you. Prior to the program, registration materials and waiver must be completed for each participant and turned into the nature center. These materials can be emailed to gcallaway@blackhawkcounty.iowa.gov or sent to 657 Reserve Drive Cedar Falls, Iowa 50613.Children can be dropped off starting 10 minutes prior to the start of the program and must be picked up with 15 minutes after the end of the program. If a child needs to be dropped off/picked up earlier/later, please contact Megan at mhamm@blackhawkcounty.iowa.gov.

Refund Policy: Refunds will only be given in the case of a documented medical emergency or funeral for programs more than $10. If program cost is under $10, a program voucher will be offered for a future program. If a program is cancelled due to weather or other unforeseen reasons, then a similar program will be offered in its place.
