Wapsi Bluff Wildlife Area

Wapsi Bluff is 54 acres of flood plain and upland forest found on the northeast corner of the Wapsi bend Access.  The 54 acres within this park, just as Wapsi Bend, provides habitat suitable for white tailed deer and turkeys.

The Wapsipinicon River runs nearly through the middle of the park which meets the needs of migratory waterfowl as they move through the area.  Winding through the park is the Wapsipinicon River Water Trail.  The water trail has been developed by the Iowa DNR as a scenic aquatic trail through Black Hawk and Bremer Counties.  Wapsi Bluff is located on the east side of the river off of Teem Road.  The access road is narrow and may require a high clearance vehicle in order to get through.  Wapsi Bluff is the last river access in Black Hawk County until the river flows into Buchanan County.  There is a newly built canoe/kayak access for boat users.  In order to become more familiar with the state's various other water trails as well as the Wapsipinicon Water Trail, visit the DNR's website.

Along the bluffs in the area you will find tracts of upland forest with a diverse number of hardwood species and spring wildflowers.
