Bird Watching with the Merlin App

While many correctly observe that technology keeps people indoors and inactive, there are many apps that can do just the opposite. Merlin Bird ID is a free app from the Cornell Lab of Ornithology that helps every birder - from first timers to ornithologists - with field ID of birds by sight and by sound. When I was first exposed to this app., I was amazed how many bird’s sounds were identified right outside the nature center. Please come with the app. installed on your phone or other handheld device. We will spend a bit of time indoors becoming familiar with the app. and then head outside to bird with technology. Any observations made with Merlin Bird ID during the Great Backyard Bird Count Feb. 14-17 will automatically be included in their worldwide census of birds.
