Heery Woods State Park - South Side

Discover Heery Woods State Park - South Side in Clarksville

Heery Woods State Park was sold to the State of Iowa in 1934 and has been managed by the Butler County Conservation Board since 1974.  Development of the park was planned by the National Parks Service and Iowa Conservation Commission with work performed by the Works Progress Administration.  The south side of the park includes an enclosed shelter house/lodge and primitive restrooms both constructed of hand cut limestone.  The south side also contains modern bathrooms, a grill shelter, and the Butler CCB Headquarters at the Allan and Fayette Meyer Nature Center.
