The Redfield Depot, a resting spot for Raccoon River Valley Trail users, stands as a reminder of Dallas County’s railroad history. The depot was once a stop on the Chicago Northwestern Railroad line, which gave residents easy access to Des Moines in the early 1800s. The Raccoon River Valley Trail is built on this now-abandoned line.

The Redfield Depot gives trail users access to the town of Redfield, which is home to the Grand Army of the Republic Museum (GAR), Hanging Rock, and several access points to the Middle and South Raccoon Rivers. The Redfield Development Commission operates a concession stand on weekends June 1-October 30.
