Abbie Gardner Historical Site
The Abbie Gardner visitor center and Abbie Gardner historical cabin is owned by the State of Iowa Historical Society. The State of Iowa Historical Society has a 28-E agreement with the Dickinson County Conservation Board to provide docents between Memorial Weekend and Labor Day.
Location
he Abbie Gardner Cabin & Museum tells the story of the Spirit Lake Massacre and of 13-year-old Abbie Gardner, whose family was killed during the 1857 violence and who was taken captive by Inkpaduta's Native American band. See the original cabin on the property as well as a monument in remembrance of the deceased settlers.

Operating Hours & Seasons
Visitor Center and Cabin are open from Memorial Weekend to Labor Day - Tuesday through Sunday from noon - 4 pm.
Closures
The visitor Center and cabin are closed from Labor Day until Memorial Day for inside tours, but the grounds are open for outside viewing.
