Sugar Creek Nature Preserve
The Tallgrass Audubon
Society purchased 49-acres
from the Grinnell
Girls Camp Association in 1997. The goal was to preserve the property as a high quality
natural area and a community resource for nature enjoyment, education and research.
The land has been managed
for its trees, birds, prairie,
and woodland wildflowers,
including the rare green dragon plant. In 2020, Sugar Creek Nature Preserve
was donated to Jasper
County Conservation so
this special place, that is full of hiking trails and an indoor classroom, could continue
to be managed for public
enjoyment!
Location
Sugar Creek Nature Preserve is located 3 miles North of exit 179, off I-80. Follow T-38 North, then head East on Hwy 6 for 1 mile. The preserve is 1/2 mile north of Uhlenhopp Arboretum.
