Jay Sigmund, was a Waubeek boy who went to the big city, Cedar Rapids, around the turn of the century and made good in the insurance business. He eventually became vice-president of the Cedar Rapids Insurance Company, which merged with Mutual of Omaha in 1936.

Through all of his business success Jay Sigmund never lost his love of Waubeek and the Wapsipinicon River Valley as evidenced by his writings presented here.

All while in Cedar Rapids, Jay and his family maintained a summer and weekend home in Waubeek.  After his untimely death in a hunting accident in 1937, his wife lived in the Waubeek home for about 35 years.
