Jester Park Shelter #4 is an open air, accessible shelter that provides a northerly view of Saylorville Lake. This shelter has a fire ring available so you can enjoy a campfire and s'mores at your next gathering. A modern restroom and playgroundare just a walk away (approximately 200 yards) from this shelter.  This shelter sits across from camp area #2, a popular camping area that overlooks the lake.

Directions:  From the main entrance, go past the nature center to the stop sign. Turn right. You will come to a Y intersection approximately one mile into the park.  At the Y intersection go left. Shelter #4 will be the second shelter you come to and will be to your right.

Fees

Reservation Fee: $50

  • Only one reservation is allowed per day, per shelter.

Advance Booking Requirement:

  • Reservations may be made up to TWO YEARS to date in advance.
  • Reservations must be made at least 5 days in advance.

Alcohol/beer/wine Restrictions:

  • If beer or wine is present at the facility, rental must be in the name of a person who is 21 years of age or older who will be present at the facility for the full term of the reservation. No other type of alcoholic beverage is allowed. 
  • Any renter having keg beer is required to pay a $100 deposit to the Ranger on the day of the event and prior to the beginning of the event.

Youth Group Discounts: An organized youth group may reserve shelters at a discounted rate.  Please contact the Polk County Conservation Office at (515) 323-5300 for more information on how to receive the discount.

Hours of Operation & Seasons

April 15 through October 15

  • Reservations allowed for all Jester Park shelters except shelter 4 which remains first come first serve, free of charge
  • One may utilize the shelter from 10:00 AM to 10:30 p.m.
  • If the shelter is not reserved for a particular date, it is available on a first-come basis.

Closures

October 16 through April 15 

  • No reservations allowed. Exceptions will be made for those events with a Special Event Permit. More information can be found on the facilities tab of our website: www.leadingyououtdoors.org.
  • All shelters may be used free of charge on a first come, first serve basis during park hours.
