Join us for a day of biking and integrative wellness with Dr.
Suzanne Bartlett Hackenmiller, Integrative Medical Physician and Joe
Hackenmiller, certified mountain bike instructor . Begin the
day learning basic bike maintenance, cold weather biking preparedness and going
on a trail ride. Conclude the workshop with Shinrin-yoku, Japanese Forest
bathing, an ancient mindfulness practice immersed in nature. Bring a bike, wear
comfortable clothing suitable for the weather.
Preregistration
required; Deadline is November 13. Minimum age 14. Fee: $25.
Items to Bring: Bring a mountain bike or bike with wider wheels for dirt trail. Helmet required! Bring a sack lunch and water. Wear Clothing appropriate for biking in the day’s forecasted weather (rain or shine, except for lightning) is essential for this one to two-hour experience.

This (fully clothed!) mindfulness
practice involves a short-distance outdoor walk where participants will become
immersed in nature by exploring the senses.
Presenter's information: Suzanne Bartlett Hackenmiller, M.D is an OB-Gyn and integrative
medicine physician at VanDiest Medical Center in Webster City. She completed
Dr. Andrew Weil’s integrative medicine fellowship at the University of Arizona,
and continues the study of herbal medicine with renowned integrative physician
and herbalist, Dr. Tieraona Low Dog. In
2015, she became the first medical doctor in Iowa to be fellowship trained and
board certified in integrative medicine.
Suzanne leads workshops on improving wellness through the natural
means of nutrition, exercise, stress reduction, mind-body practices, and nature
therapy. An avid outdoor enthusiast, she
enjoys mountain biking and fat biking, kayaking, trail running, hiking and
yoga, and her passion is empowering individuals to explore wellness outdoors.
Dr. Bartlett Hackenmiller has been quoted in Prevention Magazine
(October 2016) and the American Airlines American Way Magazine (December 2016)
on the subject of nature therapy, and currently serves as medical director for
the Association of Nature and Forest Therapy.
Joe Hackenmiller is a certified
mountain bike instructor through the Professional Mountain Bike Instructor
Association (PMBIA), a bicycle mechanic, and a lifelong cyclist whose free time
is spent riding and wrenching on bikes. He gravitates towards single track dirt
trails, groomed snow, bikepacking, gravel grinding, and endurance racing and is
a staunch advocate of all activities bike-related.
He is passionate about
promoting active outdoor lifestyles through involvement in community outreach
programs. He has led and coordinated numerous group rides and clinics, most
recently serving on the planning committee for the GoCR Fat Sac & Fox
Enduro in Cedar Rapids.
Joe is an active
member of Linn Area Mountain Bike Association (LAMBA) and Cedar Valley
Association for Soft Trails (CVAST), both International Mountain Bike
Association (IMBA) chapters. He is employed at Europa Cycle in Cedar Falls,
Iowa.
