Heritage Days at Liberty Lake
Ringgold County Conservation is excited to announce our next big event, Heritage Days on September 10th, 2022. Join us for multiple activities that will take you back in time and immerse yourself in the culture of pioneer and early settler life. Activities that are fun for all ages will be taking place from 3:00 – 5:00pm and we will conclude the evening with the Homestead Pickers concert from 5:00 -7:00pm at the Lakeview Shelter House!!
Heritage Days Afternoon Activities 3:00 – 5:00PM
● Fish Cleaning Demonstration: 3:00pm and 4:00pm - IDNR Andy Jansen
Join Andy and learn how to take your fishing game to the next level. Andy will give the fish cleaning demonstration twice, so make sure you catch him at either of his sessions to learn more about what to do with that fish once you take it off the hook!
● Bald Eagle Presentation (LIVE Bald Eagle): 3:30pm – SOAR Kay Newman
Do not miss your only opportunity to see a live bald eagle and learn all about this incredible raptor. Save Our Avian Resources will provide an educational session on bald eagles and their work with these amazing creatures.
● Atlatls: Come and Go 3 – 5pm: University of Iowa Jay Gorsch
Come on out to try your hand at the primitive spear hunting tool, the atlatl! Spear-throwers appear very early in human history throughout the world and have been revived in recent years for sporting purposes.
● Settler History Presentation: Come and Go 3 – 5pm: Border Regulators- John Newton
Visit the Border Regulators for a historical presentation of settler life, hunting, weaponry and furs! Stop by to view what a typical cowboy camp of their time would have been like and immerse yourself into pioneer life.
● Antler Buttons: Come and Go 3 – 5pm: Decatur CCB Kayla Clausen
Make your own antler button! Learn to use spinning tools like they once used to make holes in buttons. Fun for all ages!
Homestead Pickers Concert 5:00 – 7:00PM

A limited number of picnic tables will be available. Guests are encouraged to bring your own lawn chair, kayak, canoe or blanket to sit on during the concert!!
Please use the north entrance to Liberty Lake. The south entrance will be closed for the afternoon activities for the safety of all staff, presenters, volunteers and visitors.
Tickets will go on sale at mycountyparks.com on July 1st! Ticket prices at the gate will increase, so grab them early!
