Biking at Big Sioux Recreation Area
The Big Sioux Recreation Area provides those looking for a place to ride their bicycles for an afternoon. Follow the gravel road through the campground and around the lake (a small portion of this area is a mowed walking trail.

Biking at Sandy Hollow Recreation Area
There is a 3 mile hard surface biking trail that leads from Sandy Hollow to the city of Sioux Center.

Boating at Vande Weerd Pit
This 18 acre area has a small water impoundment available for fishing along with small boat and kayak or canoe access.

Boating at Winterfeld Pond
This 18 acre lake, has a boat ramp and dock available for boating access. This area is 18 acres in size and is stocked with many species of native fish.

Boating at Oak Grove & Big Sioux Park
Boat ramp access to the Big Sioux River is available at the Oak Grove Big Sioux Park.

Boating at Settlers Canoe Access
This 1 acre of flat bottom land is adjacent to the Big Sioux River. Boat ramp access to the Big Sioux River for small boat access is available.

Boating at Bruce Schomaker Recreation Area
There is a small 8 acre pond located at the Bruce Schomaker Recreation Area. Making it a quiet spot to spend some time on a boat fishing. The pond is no wake, there is also concrete boat ramp access to the pond.

Boating at Big Sioux Recreation Area
The Big Sioux Recreation Area's 90 acres of surface water supplies boaters with ample room for a relaxing boat ride, and fishing activities.
Rent a canoe, kayak or paddle board or all three and take them out to explore the area.
All boating activities are no wake.

Boating at Fairview Area
There is a 10 acre pond for small motored boats to explore. This fishing spot has been stocked with many different native species including but not limited to: Bluegill, Catfish, Crappie, Largemouth bass, Perch, Smallmouth bass and Walleye.

Cabins at Oak Grove & Big Sioux Park
Sioux County Conservation Board offers 4 cabins available by reservation between the months of April and October. All cabins have heating/AC, hot/cold water, showers, small fridges and campfire ring outside with grate for cooking.

Camping at Oak Grove & Big Sioux Park
Turkey Ridge Campground and Deer Run Campground are located at the Oak Grove Big Sioux Park. Campsites have electricity available and cemented pads. Dump stations and water refill is available at both campground areas.

Camping at Bruce Schomaker Recreation Area
There are 10 campsites located at Bruce Schomaker Recreation Area. All sites have water and electrical (50, 30 and 20 amp) services. The sites along with roadway are gravel. A modern comfort station is located central of the park along with a open air picnic shelter available for day use.
All camping is available first come first served, and is available May 15- September 15.

Camping at Alton Roadside Park
There are four (4) camp sites available at the Alton Roadside park. These sites have 30 and 20 amp electrical services. There is a dump station along with water hydrant available to fill with.

Camping at Big Sioux Recreation Area
With a total of 35 camping sites in two separate campground. Sites offer water and electrical services (50, 30, and 20 amp), along with a portion of the sites offering sewer hook ups. Majority of the sites are gravel pads with gravel roadways, there are a few sites that have concrete pads. Modern restroom facilities are located in each campground.

Camping at Sandy Hollow Recreation Area
There are 37 campsites at this area, sites range from electric only to full hook ups. A modern comfort station, along with a sewer dump is available to campers. There is also playground equipment and lots of open space for yard games.

Canoeing & Kayaking at Settlers Canoe Access
The Settlers Canoe Acces is 1 acre of flat bottom land adjacent to the Big Sioux Rivere, There is a boat ramp available for canoe and kayak entrance and exit of the Big Sioux River.

Canoeing & Kayaking at Winterfeld Pond
With a boat ramp and 18 acres to explore this is a peaceful spot to take the canoe or kayak out to and get some exploring done.

This 18 acre area has a small water impoundment available for fishing along with small boat and kayak or canoe access.

Bring your own canoe or kayak to launch from our boat ramp into the Big Sioux River, or make a reservation and use one of ours.
Canoes and kayaks available for rental by reservation from the Oak Grove Park. Must be able to do own transportation of watercraft, along with drop off and pick up of renters.

The Big Sioux Recreation Area contains 90 acres of surface water making it a peaceful spot to go canoeing and kayaking at. Bring your own canoe, kayak or paddle board or rent one of ours. Motorized boating is also allowed at no wake speeds.

This area provides a 10 acre pond with a boat ramp, allowing easy access for those wishing to take their canoe or kayak out on the pond.

There is walk in access for those wishing to go canoeing or kayaking on the Rock River, not boat ramp access to the river.

Disc Golf at Alton Roadside Park
There is a 9 hole Frisbee golf course at this location. There area additional Frisbee available for purchase at the Alton Casey's General Store.

Education at Oak Grove & Big Sioux Park
Our county naturalist are based out of the Oak Grove Big Sioux Park and offers many programs to the public throughout the Sioux County area. Programs are for all ages to enjoy, and can be tailored to any group. Programs are offered to local school groups, Boy Scout and Girl Scout troops, retirement homes, civic group and many others.

Facility Rentals at Sandy Hollow Recreation Area
The old clubhouse at Sandy Hollow is used for rental space for parties of 150 persons. This facility is a great place to host family reunions, wedding receptions, and other large gatherings. Reservations are taken by calling 712-552-1047.

This enclosed shelter is located at the Alton Roadside Park, available by reservation seasonally. The facility Is a great place for family gatherings, graduation parties, celebrations, meetings, etc. To make reservations please contact Alton Casey's General Store at 712-756-4370.

Facility Rentals at Oak Grove & Big Sioux Park
Oak Grove Lodge is available for year round rentals. The lodge has a capacity of 90-100 people. The Big Sioux Shelter is also available year round. The Big Sioux Shelter has a capacity of 50 people. Reservations may be made by calling the parks office.

FALL COLORS at Oak Grove & Big Sioux Park
Oak Groves 503 acres of rolling timber and prairie offer a long season of vibrant colors. Enjoy a nice crisp fall hike during the cooler season, or join your friends in the campground and enjoy a meal around the campfire before the end of the camping season.

This area boarders the Rock River and has walk in access for those interested in fishing.

With access to both the Big Sioux and Rock River banks there is plenty of room for an afternoon of fishing.

Fishing of the Big Sioux River bank is allowed at the park. There is also a small pond located with in the park by hiking trail that is stocked with fish.

Sandy Hollow has two small ponds that are open to fishing, weather it be from shore or ice fishing you are bound to catch something. The ponds have been stocked with catfish, large mouth bass, bluegills, walleyes, and crappie.

This property lays adjacent to the Floyd River, there is walk in access only for stream bank fishing.

Fishing at Big Sioux Recreation Area
With 90 acres of surface water located in this park there is plenty of room for shore fishing or take your boat along and fish from it. Fishing regulations are as posted or according to state of Iowa laws. There is also a handicapped fishing pier located on the south edge of the lake.
This area is a popular spot during the winter months for the locals that enjoy ice fishing.

This 9 acre area has been donated to the Sioux County Conservation Board with the purpose of being used as a wildlife refuge. This area provides a place to stop for a quick afternoon picnic, do some bird watching, nature studies and exploring.

The Alton Roadside park offers playground equipment and horseshoe pit located in the north portion of the park in addition to the camping, fishing, picnicking and more that is offered.

Other Activities at Big Sioux Recreation Area
There is much to do at the Big Sioux Recreation Area in addition to the camping, fishing, swimming and hunting. During spring migration season this area provides a prime spot to watch many eagles travel through the site. During peak migration there is anywhere from 10-100 eagles that can be seen in a given drive through the park. There are many other migratory birds that pass through the area providing ample birding opportunities for all.
In addition to bird watching there is also playground equipment that is available to all park users located in the Eagle View Campground. There is plenty of open space for those wishing to play outdoor games while camping and enjoy the surroundings. There is an outdoor archery area available to those wishing to brush up on their skills prior to hunting season starting or just looking for a different place to practice. Targets are taken down during the winter months. Must provide your own bow and arrows.
