Paint a Birdhouse Gourd
McFarland Park, Story County
Thursday, July 15, 2021
Birdhouse gourds are not only fun ornaments to add to your garden, but can also provide great nesting homes for native birds like wrens (who continue to build nests into August). Come and decorate your own birdhouse gourd! We will have gourds cut and ready for you to pick out. You will sand, “gut”, and then decorate your gourds. Gourds will need to be left behind to dry and lacquer, and can be picked up the following week.
This program is best for ages 3 and over; children must be accompanied by an adult.
Cost is $7/gourd. Please come wearing clothes you don’t mind getting paint on.
mycountyparks.com registration: Each participant wanting to have their own gourd must be registered. “Helpers” do not need to register.
Precut gourds, paint, and brushes provided. Meet at the picnic tables behind the Conservation Center.
