2025 AMERICAN GOTHIC HOUSE ART CONTEST

Event Summary

ART CONTEST RUNS FROM APRIL 23rd THROUGH MAY 23rd at 4:00 P.M.

The community of Eldon, Iowa, is home of the little white house in Grant Wood’s most famous painting American Gothic. The American Gothic House Center invites students and members of the public to participate in our annual art contest.

Kick-off for art submissions will begin April 23rd and entries will be accepted until 4:00 PM on May 23rd. Judging by a panel will determine 1st and 2nd places in the following categories: K-2nd, 3-5th, 6-8th, 9-12th, and Adult. All submissions will be on display in the American Gothic House Center during our regular operating hours. Public voting for Best in Show will be in-person only beginning June 4th though June 8th. Cash prizes to winners. Limit of 2 art pieces per person. Contest submission form can be found at either of our websites, Facebook event, or at the Center.

Rules of Art Work:

·  Must include the American Gothic House window in some form

·  8” x 10” or larger work- must be original AND display ready (mounted)

        ·  NO NAMES on the front of the artwork

·  Any medium EXCEPT photography

·  Is limited to two pieces of art work per person

·  Art work must be submitted with entry form and received by May 23rd, 2025, at 4:00 p.m.

·  No entry fee required

·  Awards will be $40 for first place and $20 for second place in each division PLUS one $60 gift certificate from the American Gothic House Center gift shop for Best in Show

 Participants will be required to certify that the art work submitted is original work and not a copy of material protected by copyright laws. Participants will also acknowledge that the art work is not insured during transportation, storage or display and will waive any claim of any nature whatsoever now or in the future against the Ottumwa Area Arts Council and American Gothic House Center for any loss, theft, or physical damage that may occur to the art work submitted. 

Art work may be picked up ON OR AFTER 6/11/2025.
