Plantation Wildlife Area
The H.R. Pettit Estate donated this ten-acre
area which was the former site of the Plantation Ballroom. It could seat 750
people, but it was rumored to accommodate as many as 1,500. It drew such name
bands as Lawrence Welk, Russ Morgan, and the Six Fat Dutchmen. The
ballroom burned to the ground in 1961. Most of the area is covered with
mature trees and the former parking area is open grasslands.
