Oralabor Gateway Trail

Trail

This 4.25 mile trail safely connects the north end of the Gay Lea Wilson Trail to the Neal Smith Trail. It also provides an important connection to the High Trestle Trail by use of Ankeny City Trails. This trail is jointly managed with the City of Ankeny. Location

Oralabor Gateway Trailheads: 

East Access: Glenbrooke Park (2803 SW Glenbrooke Blvd.) in Ankeny.

South Access: Carney Marsh (580 SE 54th St Ankeny) or at the Sycamore Access on NW 66th Ave in Johnston.

Recreation and nature enthusiasts will find this multi-use trail useful for a variety of activities including hiking, cycling, birding, and in-line skating.

Operating Hours & Seasons

  • Summer Hours (April 1 -October 31) | 6:30 a.m. - 10:30 p.m.
    • The north side of Easter Lake Park is open sunrise to sunset year-round.
    • Fort Des Moines Park is open 8 a.m. to sunset year-round.
  • Winter Hours (November 1 - March 31) | Sunrise to sunset


Closures

Motorized vehicles are prohibited on all trails within PCCB lands. The only exceptions are for maintenance, law enforcement, and emergency vehicles. This restriction does not apply to a manual-operated or power-driven device designed primarily for use by an individual with a mobility disability, e.g. wheel chair.
