Biking Biking at Little Sioux Park

BIKING –The Union Bridge Trail at Little Sioux Park is 1.75 miles long and connects the park to the town of Correctionville. A ten-foot wide concrete path winds through scenic areas and crosses the Little Sioux River with a spectacular historic bridge. Snyder Bend Park has a shorter concrete path along the lakeshore that is perfect for walking or biking.

Boating Boating at Little Sioux Park

Motorboats are allowed at Brown’s Lake—Bigelow Park and Snyder Bend Park. Both have concrete boat access.

Non-motorized boats or electric trolling motors are allowed at Little Sioux Park, Southwood Conservation Area and Midway Park.

Stop Aquatic Invaders. Thoroughly clean your boat and trailer and remove any aquatic vegetation to control spread of invasive nuisance species.

Cabins Cabins at Little Sioux Park

Woodbury County has three types of cabin experiences. You can find a rustic one-room cabin at Little Sioux Park, a one-bedroom family cabin at Southwood Conservation Area or a two-bedroom family cottage with nearly any amenity you could imagine at Snyder Bend Park!

All cabin fees for the entire stay must be paid when reservations are made. Most major credit/debit cards will be accepted as payment.  (No Checks)

Minimum two-night stay on weekends (Fri-Sat).

Minimum three-night stay on Holidays.
Camping Camping at Little Sioux Park

Family campgrounds are managed on a first-come, first-served basis and provide sites for six or fewer people. Sites cannot be reserved. Camping fees are paid by self-registration in the campgrounds. The camping season is from May 1st - October 31st.

Campground amenities vary from primitive to 50 amp electrical service, area water hydrants and dump stations. All campgrounds have access to modern restroom and shower facilities.

Canoeing & Kayaking Canoeing & Kayaking at Little Sioux Park

Launch your canoe or kayak at one of our county park lakes at Southwood Conservation Area, Brown's Lake—Bigelow Park, Snyder Bend Park, Midway Park or Little Sioux Park. River access points are available along the Little Sioux River at Copeland Park and Walling Access near Correctionville and Little Sioux Park. Some accesses may be difficult to maneuver at times due to high water, eroded banks and mud.

Facility Rentals Facility Rentals at Little Sioux Park

Enclosed picnic shelters are available for rental in Brown's Lake—Bigelow Park and Little Sioux Park. Shelters have picnic tables and grills on site. Many of the areas also offer horseshoe pits, volleyball courts, open spaces and a swimming beach.

Open shelters are found throughout the parks and are available on a first-come, first-served basis.

Shelter fees are as follows:

Brown's Lake—Bigelow Park: $​60.00 - 1/2 day and $120.00 - Full day

Little Sioux Park: $​75.00 - 1/2 day and $1​50.00 - Full day

Cabins are found at Little Sioux Park and Snyder Bend Park.

Dorothy Pecaut Nature Center has meeting rooms for rent.

Fishing Fishing at Little Sioux Park

Brown’s Lake—Bigelow Park– Fish species: northern pike, bluegill, crappie, channel catfish, bullhead; 580 acre lake; Fair shoreline access; Fishing dock; Fish cleaning station

Little Sioux Park - Fish species: largemouth bass, bluegill, channel catfish; 13 acre lake; Good shoreline access; Fish cleaning station

Little Sioux River - Fair public access at Little Sioux Park, Copeland Park and Walling Access, and poor access at Inkpaduta Access.

Shagbark Hills – Fish species: largemouth bass, bluegill, channel catfish; One-acre lake; Fair shoreline access

Midway Park – Fish species: largemouth bass, bluegill, channel catfish; Good shoreline access

Snyder Bend Park - Fish species: largemouth bass, bluegill, channel catfish, crappie; 400 acre lake; Fair shoreline access; Fish cleaning station; Handicap fishing access

Southwood Conservation Area – Fish species: largemouth bass, bluegill, crappie, channel catfish; 14 acre lake; Fair shoreline access

Hunting Hunting at Little Sioux Park

More than 4,000 acres for public hunting are managed by the WCCB. Deer, pheasant, turkey, waterfowl, squirrel and rabbit are popular game species. Some areas have restricted access and seasons. Check park maps for more details and boundaries.

County Conservation Boards are the leaders in Iowa's Hunter Safety Education Program. For additional information on hunting regulations, seasons, and Hunter Safety Education Classes - please visit the Iowa Department of Natural Resources website.
Other Activities Other Activities at Little Sioux Park

M. L. 'Stub' Gray Shooting Range

The Shooting Range features a rifle range with six shooting tube stations and target frame holders at 50, 100, and 150 yards.  The Range also includes a handgun range with target frames and concrete shooting lanes for up to eight shooters at 5, 7, 15, and 25 yards.  The rifle range shooting stations are covered and have wooden shooting tables and benches.  Large wooden spools temporarily provide a location to place extra gear.  The Range has a parking lot with an information kiosk for users to log in and log out and pay daily use fees.  A chain-link fence helps secure the area.  Target holder frames are provided for shooters.  Users need only to bring paper targets, staple gun, hearing and eye protection, and allowable weapons and ammunition.  Rules and regulations are posted and will be enforced.  County Conservation personnel and volunteer Range Safety Officers patrol the area.

Swimming beaches are found at Brown’s Lake—Bigelow Park and Little Sioux Park. Life guards are not present. Swim at your own risk. Swimming beaches are open Memorial weekend through Labor Day from 11 a.m. – 8 p.m.
Trails & Hiking Trails & Hiking at Little Sioux Park

Hiking trails are found at Fowler Forest Preserve, Little Sioux Park, Snyder Bend Park, Southwood Conservation Area and the Dorothy Pecaut Nature Center.

Concrete bike trails are located at Little Sioux Park and Snyder Bend Park.

Self-guided nature trails are located at the Southwood Conservation Area and the Dorothy Pecaut Nature Center. A suspension bridge is found at Southwood Conservation Area.
