Operating Hours & Seasons

Current hours of operation for the ELC are Monday and Wednesday 12:30 - 4:30 p.m., Thursday through Friday 12:30 p.m. - 7:00 p.m., and Saturday 10:00 a.m. - 2:00 p.m. Please note that these hours are subject to change.

Park hours are from 6:00 a.m. to 10:30 p.m.

Discover Caldwell Park in Oskaloosa

Caldwell Park is a 62-acre area that is the location of the Environmental Learning Center (ELC), the Freedom Rock, and many trails, woodlands and prairie.

The Mahaska County Environmental Learning Center (ELC) is the site for the business offices of the Mahaska County Conservation Board (MCCB). Visitors are welcome to view the displays at the ELC and participate in the educational programs offered by MCCB. Visitors can also enjoy a picnic at the tables provided outside the lower level of the building or hike the various trails the area provides.

Spring Creek divides the property with a natural wetland and a remnant prairie providing a great place to explore. The Mahaska County Recreation Foundation Trail also intersects the property. Recently added to Caldwell Park is an 18-hole disc golf course. No matter what your pleasure, completing 18 rounds of disc golf, walking or biking the trail, or just exploring the wilderness, Caldwell Park has much to offer.

Caldwell Park is also the site of Mahaska County’s Freedom Rock. The rock was completed in 2015 by artist Ray “Bubba” Sorenson II. The murals are a tribute to the veterans of Mahaska County.
