River Birch Bottoms Wildlife Area

River Birch Bottoms comprises 101 acres of flood plain forest.  Named for the appearance of river birch trees within the park, this park does provide a small parking area immediately adjacent to private land.  When visiting this park please be very aware of the rights of private land owners due to the close proximity of the park entrance to a farm house and farm operation.  There is an access lane back into the park which you are able to utilize but it may be somewhat difficult to use this access in wet weather.

This park does provide access to the river as well as wetland and woodland hunting opportunities.  The 101 acres does provide excellent white tailed deer habitat as well as the needed habitat to sustain a population of wild turkeys.  Those interested in paddling will find the Wapsi a scenic, interesting float.  The portion of the Wapsi that passes through River Birch Bottoms is part of the Wapsi River Water Trail.  In order to find more information on Iowa's many water projects visit the DNR's website.
