Bur Oak Shelter
The Bur Oak shelter may be reserved or used on a first-come, first-serve basis.
The Bur Oak Shelter is a completely open shelter with two charcoal grills and electricity. A pit toilet, water hydrant and large playground are located near the Bur Oak Shelter. The rental fee for this shelter is $15 per day.
Check-In / Out Availability Check-in is after 05:30 AM and check-out is before 10:30 PM.
Location
The Bur Oak Shelter is located on the southeast side of Little River Lake in the playground/picnic area just south of the main boat ramp.

The cost to rent the Bur Oak Shelter is $15 per day (rate increases to $25 in 2026).

The Little River Recreation Area and Slip Bluff shower houses are CLOSED. The Little River Bait Shop & General Store is also CLOSED for the 2024 season.
The Decatur County Conservation Board is located in south central Iowa along the Missouri border and is home to the Little River Recreation Area - jointly managed by the Decatur County Conservation Board and the Iowa Department of Natural Resources. The 2,200 acre Little River Recreation Area offers something for everyone. Little River Lake (787 acres) provides excellent fishing and pleasure boating, while the surrounding area provides some hunting opportunities for deer, turkey, and pheasants, cross-country skiing, and hiking.
