Heritage Shelter is a fully-accessible, enclosed facility overlooking the 10-acre lake at Little Sioux Park.   It accommodates up to 150 people and features beautiful wood interior, a stone fireplace, 40 picnic tables, 5 serving tables, modern restrooms, and a food service area with countertops, sink & refrigerator.  Just outside is a concrete patio with a perfect view of the lake, 6 picnic tables, 2 double barbecue grills, horseshoe pits, ample parking, and a playground area for the kids.  Fishing access, a swimming beach, an open sports area, and a 1.75 mile multi-use concrete trail are also located nearby.

Heritage Shelter is available to rent for a half day (9:00 a.m. – 4:00 p.m./5:00 p.m. – 10:00 p.m.) or full day (9:00 a.m. – 10:00 p.m.) between May 1st and October 31st for $75 per half-day session or $150 for the full day.  You do not have to use the shelter for the entire duration of the rental; however, the fees are not reduced for partial use.  Reservations are taken up to two years in advance.

This reservation will be for 5:00 PM to 10:00 PM on the date you select.  If you want to reserve the shelter from 9:00 a.m. – 4:00 p.m., please go back and choose “Little Sioux Heritage Shelter, 9 AM– 4 PM” in the facilities list.  If you want to reserve a full day, please continue by clicking on “Book Now”, and after completing this reservation, click on “Continue Shopping” to add the other half-day session to your cart. 

PLEASE NOTE:  There are NO REFUNDS for cancellations; however, you will have one opportunity to reschedule your reservation upon payment of a $25 administrative fee.

Firewood is available for purchase.

Permits

  • Rental must be made in the name of a person who is at least 21 years of age who will be present at the facility for the full term of the reservation.
  • Smoking is prohibited in the shelter.
  • Pets/animals are prohibited in the shelter.
  • All Rules & Regulations of the Woodbury County Conservation Board are in effect.  Violation may result in fines, use privileges being rescinded, and forfeiture of reservation fees.
