Just minutes from Iowa’s state capital, visitors can explore the wilds of Dallas County’s parks, wildlife refuges, conservation areas, and the Raccoon River Valley Trail.

Activities in Dallas County

Our various parks and trails offer a wide range of recreation opportunities, such as hiking, camping, picnicking, bird watching, hunting, paddling, cross country skiing, snowmobiling, fishing and biking. Several museums offer glimpses into the rich history of Dallas County. Environmental educational programs provide quality, hands-on experiences. Special events, such as the Prairie Awakening/Prairie Awoke Celebration, are dates everyone will want to attend yearly.

Facilities in Dallas County

Camping enthusiasts can utilize several campsites including primitive tent camping and RV sites. Overnight stays can be reserved at two all-season cabins that sleep 5, Glissman Lodge that sleeps 8, or historic Dayton Stagecoach Inn that sleeps 9. Sportsman Lodge is an enclosed shelter house with heating and air conditioning. Multiple boat ramps are located along both the North and Middle/South Raccoon Rivers. The Raccoon River Valley Trail is a multi-use, 89-mile trail that attracts people from across the state and nation.
